STORY OF A CHALLENGE
THE MEMBERS EDMOND INIESTA AND MARÍA JOSÉ PASTOR HAVE MANAGED TO COMPLETE A CHALLENGE NEVER BEFORE ACCOMPLISHED BY ANY SPANISH GOLFER, TO PLAY ALL THE 18-HOLE COURSES IN SPAIN. FOR 25 YEARS, THIS MARRIED COUPLE, PHARMACISTS BY PROFESSION, USED THEIR FREE TIME AND VACATIONS FOR THEIR PASSION: GOLF. THIS IS THE STORY OF THE CHALLENGE.
How did you get started in the world of golf?
We started playing together 27 years ago. We had a group of friends who played and they invited us to try, but what was clear to us was that if we did it was together, because some friends had had problems, but we had it clear and since then until today.
How did the story of the “challenge” come about?
The challenge really came about without looking for it. During the second year, we decided to play all the courses in Catalonia, including rustic and 9-hole courses. When we finished, we thought of extending the challenge and we continued through the Valencia region and when we finished we decided to do all the courses in Spain.
How were they organized?
When we started the challenge we still worked and programmed them according to the courses we wanted to do. For example, if we did a route to the south, we tried to do all the fields we found on the route.
Did you have any difficulty to play in any course?
The world of golf has a great value of brotherhood and thanks to friends and new relationships allowed us to play in courses like Moraleja and Puerta de Hierro (at that time we were not members of the RCGP). On the other hand, there are the military courses, which do not allow you to play without a sponsor.
Which course surprised you the most?
Without a doubt, the Old de Zagaleta in Benhavis. It is a beautiful course, located in the mountains, with magnificent views.
How did it feel to complete the challenge?
It is the best thing we have ever done. It is an unforgettable experience that has allowed us to enjoy golf, to get to know beautiful landscapes and places of the Spanish geography, as well as to enjoy the great gastronomy of our country.
You are members of RCG El Prat, having seen so many courses, what do you think of our course?
It is in perfect condition and it is beautiful. The maintenance and care of El Prat is excellent. Now that we are retired, we usually play an average of 25 days a month and El Prat gives us three different courses to enjoy golf.
First it was the Catalan courses, then all the Spanish ones, now it’s Europe’s turn?
It’s impossible, it’s something we can’t complete, there are so many. We have played 55 courses all over Europe and the world. We had thought of playing all the 18-hole courses in Portugal because of the proximity, but for the moment, we are going to repeat all the Spanish courses that are being remodeled and those that we like the most.
