Pablo Larrazábal wins his 7th victory on the DP World Tour

Pablo Larrazábal wins his 7th victory on the DP World Tour

Pablo Larrazábal has done it again…Seventh victory in the Dp World Tour!

This time it was at Infinitum Golf, in Tarragona, the ISPS Handa Championship. A tournament that was affected by the weather and had to be suspended on several occasions due to heavy rains.

But this did not bother our member on his personal mission of winning and all the scorecards presented in this tournament were under par. But what really gave him the victory was a spectacular final round of 62 strokes. With 5 birdies in a row in the second round, Pablo signed a -8 for a total of -15, just one shot behind Adrián Otaegui.

The members of Real Club de Golf El Prat commented on how happy he is to win at home, with his family and friends supporting him and, above all, because of the years before were he was not confortable with his game. Two wins so far this year is a good dosis of confidence. We are happy and proud of this seventh victory, without a doubt, a great feat for Pablo and for the Spanish golf.

We wish you many more victories!

Ángel Hidalgo wins playoff at the Open de Barcelona by Pablo Larrazábal

Ángel Hidalgo wins playoff at the Open de Barcelona by Pablo Larrazábal

  • Hidalgo beat Barcelona’s Pep Anglès on the second extra hole, who forced the tiebreaker after the birdie on 18 at the Open de Barcelona. Pablo Larrazábal’s great comeback, who was on the verge of being part of the play-off to dispute the title.

Live results: https://open.imaster.golf/es/prat/torneos/livescoring/CB0522054

The Andalusian player Ángel Hidalgo continues to bring joy to Spanish golf after winning the PGA Open de Barcelona by Pablo Larrazábal on the second play-off hole against the local player Pep Anglès, who forced the playoff with a birdie on the 18th hole. Extraordinary round of 66 shots of Ángel, who made two bogeys on 6th and 13th, best round of the tournament. The player from Guadalmina redeemed himself after a second round of 77 shots. The strong wind and the harsh conditions of the greens were the cause of the high numbers of the almost 140 participants in the tournament: a record number of entries.

But, there is nothing impossible in golf. We have seen it at The Masters in Augusta with the game of Tiger Woods and we see it now at El Prat with Hidalgo who is ready for a place on the DP World Tour this year. After winning his full card for the Challenge Tour last season (two victories in the Alps Tour and one in the Challenge), Hidalgo has his eyes set on the DPWT. And what better way to take a giant step than conquering the first tournament of the Pro Spain Golf Tour 50th Anniversary, promoted by the PGA of Spain, which could not have had a better start, better course, better promoter or better winner.

Hidalgo did not have the best start (72 and 77), but the Andalusian got the best of himself in the last round: only two bogeys on the course on holes 6 and 13; and a heart-stopping finish with four birdies in the last five holes, signing a card of 66 to finish with 215 strokes (-1).

The victory  slipped away for Pep Anglès

Barcelona’s Pep Anglès, a DPWT player and one of the favourites for the victory, also had to overcome two rounds over par (74-73). The first nine holes were crucial with four birdies and a bogey; and in the second nine, birdies resisted him. After eight consecutive pars, the birdie on the 18th hole was highly celebrated and that allowed him to play in the playoff. Both players tied on the first hole and it was Hidalgo who prevailed with a great birdie on the second hole to write down his name among the winners of the Spanish PGA national circuit.

Pablo Larrazábal, one shot away from playoff

Bad luck for the Swedish Michael Lundberg, who after leading the tournament until the 15th hole, after his second consecutive birdie, signed two inconvenient bogeys (16 and 17) that made him lose ground. The birdie on the 18th was a consolation (72) to ensure third place tied with Pablo Larrazábal who has improved by the days in this tournament that he sponsors. As he said at the end of the second round, he knew that with red numbers he could be among the finalists. The last five holes of the tournament were very good (three birdies), but he was one more away from playing the play-off with the leaders.

Great job for the Catalan player and member of RCG El Prat, as well as by Álvaro Velasco, a club professional, who has also worked hard to make this tournament possible. As well as the RCG El Prat for their excellent work. The involvement of all the professionals has been essential to break the registration record and hold a big tournament at this start of the PGA Spain Tour 50th Anniversary circuit.

Pablo Larrazábal wins his 6th tournament

Pablo Larrazábal wins his 6th tournament

Pablo Larrazábal is a member at Real Club de Golf El Prat, where he practices daily, and we want to congratulate him on his new victory on the DT World Tour (European Tour). It’s his 6th victory!

This time, Pablo finished the tournament with 266 strokes (-22) with an exceptional game at the MyGolfLife Open in South Africa. Even so, he had to play an exciting Playoff with Adri Arnaus and the Englishman, Jordan Smith, who could not beat the member of Real Club de Golf El Prat. On the first hole, Adri did not make a birdie putt unlike the other two opponents, while on the second playoff hole, Smith signed a bogey while Larrazábal was able to get away with par to become champion.

It is the sixth victory for the spaniard and we cannot be more proud. We look forward to your next victory!

Course Conditions

The golf course has been constructed on quite a flat piece of land, so golfers don’t need to worry about drastic undulations or elevation changes. However, this shouldn’t lull golfers into a false sense of security, for the course is still a challenge.

The fairways consist of Agrostis Stolonifera Pennway (bent grass), which looks and feels good all year round. On the greens you’ll find Agrostis Stolonifera A-4, a slightly different bent grass variation, which makes them fast and smooth.

Golfers will find the front nine to be fairly flat, but the back nine to be quite hilly and challenging to walk on the Pink Course.

Layout & Game Play

The course layout may be slightly confusing. The 36 course holes are laid out in four loops of 9 holes each, and these can be played in a variety of different combinations to form a full 18-hole round. But, in a daily basis, you will find the Pink course ( Championship Course) or the yellow course.

From the back tees, the course stretches to more than 7,300 yards. Various tee boxes offer equal opportunities for golfers of all skill levels.

Many holes are lined by beautiful trees, and soft sand bunkers are scattered strategically throughout the course. The fairways are long and favor straight-shooters, and the fast, true greens require patience.

Although the course is open to the public, you need a federation card if you want to swing your clubs on these fairways. The only course that doesn’t require it is the 9-hole pitch-and-putt practice course.

Signature Hole

Because of the unique layout of this course, there’s no specific signature hole. However, some holes do stand out more than others.

On the Yellow course, hole number 6 is a tricky par-3 that has a dogleg and a slightly raised green protected by bunkers on each side. The most difficult hole is the last one, which is a long, uphill par-4.

On the Pink course, the par-3 6th hole features an extremely large protective bunker and a raised, sloping green. A par is an achievement on this hole.

Final Notes

Interestingly, the Real Golf Club de El Prat has been awarded ISO 14001 status, because of its continued efforts to be a sustainable golf course. It’s located on a 220-hectare piece of ground, of which almost 150 hectares consists of forest and cereal crops.

Because of this environment, the golf resort is rife with wildlife and wonderful flora as well. The golf course has been built around the natural landscape to preserve as much of it as possible. Not only will golfers enjoy the challenge of the courses and the natural beauty of the surroundings, but there’s a chance of spotting local animals too!

If you’ve recently moved to the area, Real Club de Golf El Prat is a very worthwhile place to spend a few hours with your golf clubs. The versatility of the courses means that you’ll never get bored of this unique golf club!

Then, on the second day, golf industry companies had the opportunity to show and present their products and new technologies at the conference centre were a fair was organized. José Gómez, a life dedicated to golf

José Gómez has been at our Club for more than 40 years working on its courses, taking care and preparing them to reach the high standards that a club like Real Club de Golf El Prat requires.

“The AEDG has been very generous. This award is very big, much more than they think, since it is not only for me but for many people who have helped me fulfil my almost impossible dream at 20 years of age: to be able to become a greenkeeper and a fellow AEDG member ”- José commented amidst the excitement of receiving this award.

The Spanish Greenkeeper, in addition to his passion for the sea, lives his profession with enthusiasm so he has travelled all over the world to gain all the knowledge possible. Moreover, all that effort and expertise has made Real Club de Golf El Prat great.

“For me, at a professional level, I cannot obtain a greater award than the recognition that my colleagues from the AEDG are giving me”
